Summary:
General Assembly approval of certain water quality standards. Requires an act of the General Assembly before a water body or a segment of a water body may be classified or designated as an Outstanding Natural Resource Water. When the Department of Environmental Quality receives a nomination of a water body or segment for Outstanding Natural Resource Water status it is to make a preliminary assessment of whether or not the water meets the requirements for such designation. If the Department finds that there is potential that the criteria for such designation may be met it is to submit the preliminary assessment to the General Assembly. Any member of the General Assembly may then introduce legislation to designate the water body or segment. No such approval is required for classification of waters that are within the boundaries of federal or state park lands.
