Concealed weapons permits. Modifies the criteria for issuance of a permit. Under current law, an applicant must demonstrate a need for the permit. The bill would require issuance of a permit unless a disqualifying event has occurred (e.g., the person was convicted of a felony, is an illegal alien, was adjudicated incompetent, was involuntarily committed, is subject to a protective order, is alleged to intend to unlawfully use the weapon to endanger others, etc.) The bill also specifies certain identifying information which must be included in the permit. An applicant who is denied a permit but successfully appeals the denial is entitled to reimbursement for costs from the Commonwealth.
