Term contracts for teachers and administrators. Eliminates continuing contract status for teachers and administrators and establishes term contract status for these school personnel who have completed the required three-year probationary period. Term contracts may be one to five years in length; the school board and the teacher must give written notice of noncontinuation of the term contract by April 15 of each year. Absent this notice, the term contract will continue for the ensuing year according to its terms, similar to the present procedure for continuing contracts. In the year in which the term contract expires, both parties are free to negotiate a new term contract. Teachers who have term contracts will be afforded grievance procedure protections similar to those currently granted to continuing contract teachers; noncontinuation of a term contract would be grievable. Failure to grant a teacher a new term contract upon expiration of a previous term would not be grievable. This measure was carried over by the House Education Committee.
