HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 28
Commending Ivy Hill Cemetery.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 10, 2006

 

WHEREAS, Ivy Hill Cemetery in Alexandria celebrates its sesquicentennial in 2006; and

WHEREAS, during this anniversary year, the Ivy Hill Cemetery Historical Preservation Society will begin its work preserving and protecting the cemetery's historical, artistic, and ecological heritage; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of its close ties with the fire and rescue services of the City of Alexandria, Ivy Hill Cemetery will cap its anniversary observance with a memorial service and wreath-laying ceremony in honor of fire and rescue workers; and

WHEREAS, Ivy Hill Cemetery invites the public to enjoy its tranquility and seclusion within the City; and

WHEREAS, Thomas C. Bowling, III, as President of the Ivy Hill Cemetery, has been a careful steward of Ivy Hill's legacy and tradition; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Ivy Hill Cemetery hereby be commended on its 150th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Thomas C. Bowling, III, on behalf of Ivy Hill Cemetery, in recognition of the cemetery's long history.
