SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 498
On the death of Megan Owen Barry.

WHEREAS, Megan Owen Barry, a former Senate page and a former employee of the Senate Clerk's Office, died on February 13, 2003; and

WHEREAS, Megan Owen Barry grew up in Springfield and earned her undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary and her law degree from the University of Virginia Law School; and

WHEREAS, Megan Owen Barry was a familiar figure at the Virginia Capitol from her service as a Senate page in 1988, an intern, and a committee clerk for the Senate Clerk's Office in 1995; and

WHEREAS, Megan Owen Barry also worked in the office of the Secretary of Health and Human Resources, Jane Woods, and was a lobbyist for the law firms of Hogan & Hartson and Reed Smith; and

WHEREAS, Megan Owen Barry married Fairfax County Sheriff Stan Barry in 2002, then returned to her position with Reed Smith; and

WHEREAS, Megan Owen Barry was well-known and widely respected by members of the General Assembly and legislative staff for her interest and expertise in Virginia politics and the legislative process; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the untimely loss of Megan Owen Barry; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Megan Owen Barry as an expression of the high regard in which her memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
