WHEREAS, Michael Todd Blanton, a Virginia State Police trooper, was killed in the line of duty on January 29, 2003; and

WHEREAS, a native of Henrico County, Michael Todd Blanton graduated from Highland Springs High School in Henrico County in 1991; and

WHEREAS, Michael Todd Blanton enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1992 and served with great distinction for four years, achieving the rank of Senior Airman; and

WHEREAS, Michael Todd Blanton was awarded the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Award, and the Air Force Training Ribbon; and

WHEREAS, Michael Todd Blanton joined the Virginia State Police on March 10, 1998; and

WHEREAS, after graduation from the State Police Academy on September 4, 1998, Michael Todd Blanton was assigned to Henrico County and, on March 1, 1999, was promoted to the rank of Trooper II; and

WHEREAS, Trooper Michael Todd Blanton was recognized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving for his contributions to highway safety by arresting those who drove their motor vehicles under the influence of alcohol and those who endangered the motoring public by driving in a dangerous or reckless manner; and

WHEREAS, during his too-short life, Trooper Michael Todd Blanton established an exemplary record of service to his family, his community, the Commonwealth, and the nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the untimely loss of a courageous and dedicated public servant, Trooper Michael Todd Blanton; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Trooper Michael Todd Blanton as an expression of the General Assembly's profound sorrow on his passing and great respect for his memory.
