HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 660
On the death of Frankie Lynn Betterton.

WHEREAS, Frankie Lynn Betterton of Danville, a popular and highly respected deputy sheriff with the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office, was killed in the line of duty on May 17, 2002; and

WHEREAS, a native of Danville, Frankie Betterton joined the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office in 1999 and quickly established a sterling reputation among the citizens he served; and

WHEREAS, a veteran of service in the United States Air Force, Frankie Betterton was widely known and respected as a man of faith and a dedicated law-enforcement officer; and

WHEREAS, a longtime member of the Brosville United Methodist Church, Frankie Betterton served the church as a trustee and as a member of the United Methodist Men; and

WHEREAS, Frankie Betterton was also a founding member of Law Enforcement for Christ; and

WHEREAS, devoted to his family, his church, and his career in law enforcement, Frankie Betterton will be missed by his many friends and admirers and by the citizens of Pittsylvania, whom he served with such dedication and integrity; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the untimely loss of a fine Virginian, Frankie Lynn Betterton; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Frankie Lynn Betterton as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of Danville and Pittsylvania County.
