Commending the Holmes Run Acres Civic Association.

Unanimous consent to introduce

WHEREAS, Holmes Run Acres, a Fairfax County community of 362 families, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2001; and

WHEREAS, the Holmes Run Acres Civic Association was established by Holmes Run Acres residents in 1951 to provide services in a Fairfax County that was then primarily rural; and

WHEREAS, the Holmes Run Acres Civic Association built the first community swimming pool in Fairfax County and, in cooperation with the Fairfax County Park Authority, turned a dump site into the first neighborhood park in the county; and

WHEREAS, the Holmes Run Acres Civic Association sponsors or encourages social events, house and garden tours, art shows, classes, clubs, and family gatherings throughout the year; and

WHEREAS, the Holmes Run Acres Civic Association also sponsors several outreach projects, such as Holmes Run children giving gifts for needy children outside the immediate area, and the association has assisted neighboring communities in establishing their own civic associations; and

WHEREAS, the 50th anniversary of Holmes Run Acres will be celebrated throughout 2001 with such events as a garden tour and arts and crafts show, a house tour, an anniversary celebration dinner, and a 50th anniversary day in the park; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Holmes Run Acres Civic Association be hereby commended for its 50 years of service to the citizens of the Holmes Run Acres community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Holmes Run Acres Civic Association as an expression of the House of Delegates' congratulations on its golden anniversary.
